Embracing Your True Self

Updated: Feb 22, 2022

"From our perspective, the whole world revolves around us, but there are seven billion people who see it the same way. While we are not all inherently selfish or selfish-obsessed, we are all far more concerned with how we are perceived by others than how we perceive them. So once again, embrace your true self and find peace in knowing that people are too concerned with themselves to give you as much attention as you think they are." -Anonymous

The first time I touched on this topic, in my older Journals, I was completely focused on watching people to discover how I was perceived by society. In search of myself, I looked through the eyes of others; which is completely contradictory! Every individual's values vary towards what they believe is the best way to live life. How could two people with different beliefs, possibly decide for each other how they should exist? Only we can fully understand and embrace ourselves; therefore, it is up to each individual to determine who they should be.

Furthermore, a massive problem many people face, just as I have in the past, is trying to discover ourselves. The world needs to grasp the idea that humans are supposed to be constantly shaping their minds to develop modern ideas, enhance decision making and improve social interactions; it is in our DNA to evolve. Where would the progression and vertical mobility of society be, if people actually got to a point where they said: "Alright, this is it. I have found myself so there is no need to change anymore." The day an individual says this, is the day they come to a halt. While the rest of the world continues to develop, they will fall behind in knowledge, betterment and understanding.

My goal is to never completely find myself because the best part of life is revealing the ever growing layers of our persona. What if your future self learned to do all the things you currently cannot do? If you resisted these necessary transformations, then it would be your fault you never improved. This is why we must always embrace and appreciate our present and constantly changing selves.

You are under no obligation to be the person you were five minutes ago." -Alan W. Watts

Sadly sometimes we cannot appreciate our present selves because we fall into a place we feel we do not even exist as a unique individual. For those of you, remember that no matter how you act at any given time, you will always be the epitome of yourselves. And you are in existence, therefore, there is no possible way of being something less than the person you are!
