Why?

Why do we wait only for the destruction of historical landmarks to raise billions of dollars, enough that could still help millions by lifting our third world countries out of squalor?
Why is there international outcry to weigh the life of an unborn fetus, but silence for the children already born into a life of hardship, discarded into the overflowing masses of foster care and adoption?
Why does civilization fight so much harder against the probable fears of climate change before even considering its possibility? What if we did maintain more sustainable solutions and improve the efficiency of our society only to find out it was all a mistake? Heaven Forbid.
Why is the instant need to pay off national debt more important than the basic needs of its citizens? So we steal from the emptying pockets of Health Care, Education and other necessary services, instead of finding more reasonable long term resolutions.
Why do we deny the simple freedoms of fellow humans, by refusing their personal identities or not providing essential community services to those who need it, only because, "it is too inconvenient to change."
Why?
Because the rich stay rich from greed. Because the outcry for humanity only extends as far as our own convenience. Because we will speak for change but refuse to act on or pay for it. Because the public interest has only ever been nearsighted.
And until we fight to maintain long term solutions for all the valuable life on this earth, rather than bickering over the micromanagement of our current affairs, our furture will never be bright. With these current ideologies our future is but a dim candle being pushed further and further away with every dismissal. Without constant progression to improve the foundations of our future, that candle will fade, flicker and burnout. As will opportunity, personal freedoms, and our planet. As will we.
But with the rise of a Civil Society, which stands up to short sighted political antics and sees the importance of advancing and investing in the future, one day that candle could be replaced. It could evolve from the flame, to lamp, to a light bulb. And then into something so powerful, not even the greatest deficit, corruption, hatred, selfishness, or denial could burn out the brightness of our furture.

Deep concepts. Complex and full of questions. Sometimes the answers don't lie before our eyes and searching for a solution sidetracks us and we forget where we left off. That's how now we have more questions then answers.
